General Program: Tokyo

Courses

Students enrol either in the Conversation Focused Course or General Intensive Course, both of these two courses are Monday to Friday total 20 lessons per week.

The Conversation Focused course covers basic grammar, vocabulary, and Japanese culture & customs in order to improve your fluency. This course will enable you to speak with confidence.   The levels for this course are: Zero Beginner, Beginner, Upper Beginner and Intermediate I.

There are morning classes only, from 9:10am -12:40 pm.   The class size is 5-15 students, with an average of 7-10.

The General Intensive Course focuses on all four skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) of the Japanese language .  This course also prepares students for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in order to attend a university or college in Japan.  The levels for this course are: Beginner, Upper Beginner and Intermediate I, Intermediate II, Upper Intermediate, Advanced I, Advanced II and High Advanced.

Depends on your level, you will either take the morning classes (9:10am-12:40pm) or afternoon class ( 1:30pm-5:00pm). Class size is 12 to 20 students, with an average of 15.

Dates

There are 4 terms in a year, divided as the following:

Conversation Focused Stream: (12 weeks /term)
Fall Semester: October 6-December 26, 2008
Winter Semester: January 13-April 3, 2009
Spring Semester: April 6-July 3, 2009 (no class April 29-May 6)
Summer Semester: July 6-September 25, 2009
Winter Semester: January 13-April 3, 2009
Fall Semester: October 5-December 25, 2009

General Intensive Stream: (10 weeks/term)
Fall Semester: October 6-December 12, 2008
Winter Semester: January 13-March 19, 2009
Spring Semester: April 6-June 19, 2009 (no class April 29-May 6)
Summer Semester: July 6-September 11, 2009
Fall Semester: October 5-December 11, 2009

Start date: any Monday in a semester.
zero-beginner must start from regular start dates in the conversation focused stream.

Deadlines:

Short term (for study less than 6 months): 2 months before the start date,

Student Visa (for study more than 6 months): Due to the time required to apply for student visa, the deadline is 6 months prior to the start date. If you missed the deadline or if you are zero beginner, you may be able to start with a combination short term study and student visa study.

Fees

General Intensive stream: 13,500 YEN / week for year 2008 (14,500 YEN/week for year 2009) for short term or 588,000 YEN / year for 2008 (600,000 YEN for year 2009)(40 contact weeks) for pre-college visa.

Conversation focused stream:  13,500 YEN / week for year 2008 (14,500 YEN/week for year 2009) for short term or 705,600 YEN / year for 2008 (720,000 YEN for year 2009) (48 contact weeks) for pre-college visa.

Other fees:
student visa processing & translation fee: 450 USD (pre-college visa only)
Enrolment fee 60,000 yen;
Textbook & maintenance fee: 22,500 Yen/term or 90,000 yen/year.
bank surcharge 4,000 Yen;
Airport pickup from Tokyo Narita airport: 200 USD. (The airport is far from the city)
Accommodation placement fee: 175 USD

Process

Short term study process:
Generally no visa required for many countries, please check with us if you are not sure.
deadline: 60 days before the start date

The pre-college visa application process:

     Submit online application, and pay the registration fee.
     Required documents will be sent to you to fill in, and you send back all the documents for us to pre-review. 
     Once we checked them, you need to mail us the original copies of the documents, and pay the processing fee.
     We will translate and confirm all your documents. 
     We will submit your documents to Immigration Japan.
     Certificate of Eligibility will be issued by Immigration Japan. 
     Pay your tuition fee.  
     Admission Certificate will be sent after we received your fees.
     Apply your visa to Japan.

Live

Students can choose either homestay or school dormitory.

The homestay allows students to live with local warm-hearted Japanese family, it is a quick way to improve the Japanese language and learn the culture. Student has his or her own bedroom. Meals are provided by the host family, it includes breakfast and dinner for weekdays and 3 meals for the weekends.  homestay fee is 19,600 yen/Week.

The school dormitory is an alternative style of living. It is a furnished bedroom. The kitchen and bathroom are shared among the students. Meals and utilities are NOT included.   Fee from 60,000-100,000 yen/month depends on location.

Apartments are a little more expensive with extra privacy such as your own kitchen and bathroom.  Fee is above 90,000 yen/month.
